General Sessions Court

Be Prepared for Court

  • Please arrive on time
  • Dress appropriately - see the dress code here
  • Check in with the clerk’s office upon arrival so the court knows you are here
  • You may represent yourself or hire your own attorney.  If you believe you are indigent, you may apply for a court appointed attorney.
  • Failure to appear will result in a capias being issued for your arrest.
  • Convictions for driving offenses are reported to the Tennessee Department of Safety and will go on your driving history.
  • If your case(s) is dismissed it is eligible for expungement.  There is an expungement fee of $100 for cases dismissed upon successful completion of a diversion or for 5 year guilty expungement.
  • You may access defendant and/or docket information via the court’s website.

Deputy clerks cannot give legal advice.  You should consult an attorney if you need legal advice.  The clerk’s office cannot tell you what action to take in regards to your case.

All Fines and Costs Are Due and Payable Upon Adjudication of Your Case

  • If you are unable to pay in full you shall be offered a payment plan based on your income and ability to pay.
  • You will be required to fill out a financial assessment in order for the clerk's office to make a determination of your present ability to pay.
  • Payments may be made in cash, money order, or credit/debit card.
  • Payment may be made via the court’s online payment portal, in person, or by phone. (615) 355-5739.
  • Failure to pay your court costs and fines will result in the suspension of your drivers license.

NOTICE!!   T.C.A. 40-24-105

  • Failure to timely make payments as ordered by the court results in the suspension of the person’s license and the issuance of a restricted license.
  • Default on the payment plan while the person is issued a restricted license results in the revocation of the restricted license and the person's driving privileges (for a minimum of six (6) months).
