Civil Rights under Title VI

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (42 U.S.C. § 2000d) prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin by any entity receiving financial assistance from the U.S. Government. The intent of this law is to ensure that all individuals, regardless of race, color, or national origin, have equal access to and can participate in programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance.

It is the policy and intent of the Town of Smyrna to fully comply with Title VI and to ensure that all residents have access to Town-funded programs and services without discrimination. Additionally, Town policy prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin by its employees, by any subcontractor receiving federal funds through a Town department, or by any entity that receives federal funds as a sub-recipient from the Town.

If you believe you or someone else has been discriminated against based on race, color, or national origin by the Town of Smyrna, a Town official, employee, contractor, or sub-recipient of federal funds, you may file a complaint using the form above or directly with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
