Road Projects
INTELLIGENT TRAFFIC SYSTEM PHASES 1 AND 2
The project was approved and funding allocated from FHWA, TDOT, and Town of Smyrna to link traffic lights along Sam Ridley, Nissan Drive, parts of Enon Springs, parts of Rock Springs, and parts of Lowry Street to a central Traffic Operations Center at Town Hall. The project is complete and the Town Traffic Operations Center is operational at Town Hall.
INTELLIGENT TRAFFIC SYSTEM PHASES 3, 4, AND 5
The project is approved and funding allocated from FHWA and TDOT to link traffic lights along Lee Victory, Almaville Road, Old Nashville Highway, parts of Enon Springs, and parts of Lowry Street to the central Traffic Operations Center at Town Hall. The project is currently at TDOT for funding.
LOWRY STREET PHASE I
This project improved the sidewalks and streetscaping on Lowry Street from Jackson Street to Sam Davis Road. The project was completed Spring 2023.
LOWRY STREET PHASE II
This project will improve the sidewalks and streetscaping on Lowry Street from Jackson Street to Harts Branch Bridge. The project is in the Design phase.
SAM RIDLEY PARKWAY AT OLD NASHVILLE HIGHWAY
This project will add double left turn lanes, two through lanes, and a right turn lane on all 4-legs of the intersection. Design has been completed with final plans ready for TDOT's approval and Construction Notice to Proceed.
GENIE LANE EXTENSION
This project will provide a link between Potomac Place and Wolverine Trial. The project is now under construction with completion scheduled for Summer of 2024. Most Utilities have been completed between Austin Lee Drive and Wolverine Trail. TWO-WAY traffic is now open with one lane remaining closed due the construction of a retaining wall.
WASHINGTON STREET PEDESTRIAN CROSSING
The Town, TDOT, and CSX are working together on a project to safely link pedestrian traffic between Lowry Street and Front Street. This project will add sidewalks to each side of Washington Street and pedestrian gate arms at the railroad crossing. CSX has begun construction of the new gates and rail crossing. Construction plans have been completed and CSX ROW easements are being drafted.
SPRING HILL DRIVE EXTENSION
This project will provide a link between the current termination point of Spring Hill Drive and the Rocky Fork Schools. The project is now under construction with completion scheduled for Spring of 2024.
TRIDON BRIDGE REPLACEMENT
This project will replace the existing bridge on Tridon Drive. The bridge will be phased constructed with one lane to remain open. The project began May 15, 2023 with substantial completion scheduled for December 2023. Phase I beams are scheduled to be set August 15, 2023.
Sam Ridley Parkway (SR-266) and Nissan Parkway (SR-102) Intersection Improvements
Construction is scheduled to begin August 18, 2023 with completion anticipated by November 30, 2023. The project will remove the concrete paving at Weakly Lane, Jefferson Pike, and Enon Spring Road and replace it with high strength asphalt. Construction will be done on weekends.
JEFFERSON PIKE (SR-266) WIDENING
Construction started in March 2021. Substantial completion is anticipated by July 31, 2024. The project will widen Jefferson Pike from 2-Lanes to a 4-Lane divided roadway from Sam Ridley Parkway to I-840.
Lowry Street (SR-1) and Sam Ridley Parkway (SR-266) Interchange Improvements
TDOT has scheduled the project to be bid out for construction on 7-24-2024. The project will improve the ramps from Sam Ridley Parkway on to Lowry Street. Improvements will also be done at Lowry Street and Jefferson Pike.
IMPROVEMENTS TO EXIT 66 ON I‐24
TDOT has scheduled the project to be bid out for construction on 3-22-2024.
IMPROVEMENTS TO EXIT 70 ON I‐24
TDOT has scheduled the project to be bid out for construction in the Fall of 2026.
